A creative VPN solution for a company that's moving
Created by staunchsystems on 3/27/2010 12:55:52 PM

See how we used two Peplink Balance 210 routers to create an affordable high availability VPN Solution to help a customer move their managment office while they waited for their fiber to be installed.

Business Case:

A customers of ours has a DSL / Fiber WAN solution that connects all 17 of there banch offices to their managment office.  The company was in a hurry to move into a new building when they realized that they couldn't move the 10 Mb Fiber line quick enough.  All their properties depended on having access to the servers and downtime was not an option.

Peplink Solution:

We decided to use peplink's VPN solution to connect the Corporate WAN to the new managment office while we waited for the fiber to be installed.  Budget was obviously a key factor.  We decided to use (2) Peplink Balance 210 routers to create a peer to peer VPN between the Corporate WAN and the new management facility.  This is what we did:

  1. Ordered (2) Peplink Balance 210 Routers
  2. Ordered (2) COX Cable connections at the new site (no contract)
  3. Installed 1 Peplink Balance 210 (ISP Router) router at the ISP who hosts our Corporate WAN
  4. Setup static routes on the ISP Router so that traffic determined for the branch offices or the managment office was directed through the peplink to the new Management Router.
  5. Installed 1 Peplink Balance 210 (Managment Router) at the new site and connected the 2 COX Cable connections to it.
  6. Established a high availability VPN connection between the ISP Router and the Management Router
